One of my 101 in 1,001 goals is to write and send 1 non-birthday card a month and with month was one coming down to the wire I needed a recipient. Enter Danny Nickerson. Now of course I could have sent my first card to my nephews, a friend, my nana, anyone really in my life but yesterday morning I came across Danny’s story on my newsfeed.
Danny is a five year old boy living just 30 miles from me in Foxboro, MA who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor last October. He turns six this Friday and all he wants for his six birthday are cards. I needed to send a card as part of my own personal 101 challenge, I’ve been a supporter of the Boston Brain Tumor Walk ever since my company became involved 3 years and I acted as our fundraising coordinator, and I just so happened to have a blank birthday card sitting on my desk the decision was made, that though this was a birthday card Danny would be my first recipient, I’ve never met him and I probably never will but the smile I hope he has when he receives my card and the many I’m sure that are on their way makes up for the fact that I’m altering my goal slightly for the month.
I dropped the card in the mail yesterday afternoon, if you’d like to join me in wishing Danny a Happy 6th Birthday you can mail a card to: Danny Nickerson, P.O. Box 212, Foxboro, MA, 02035.
